Last weekend Dustin and I decided to try out the new Cornelius restaurant, Hello, Sailor! Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I had read mixed reviews online, but I think people just weren’t quite sure what to expect, I’ll explain more about that later.
The first thing you notice when you walk in Hello, Sailor is how well decorated it is. The mid mod furniture and retro light fixtures create an awesome ambiance. The inside dining room is much larger than I imagined it to be and the horseshoe bar has plenty of seating, which you can also be served at.
The cocktail menu is great! There are options for everyone! My recommendation for anyone who likes gin would be their house made slushy. They’re served with a curly straw and mini umbrella, so cute! They also have a beer brewed from Free Range Brewery specifically for them. It is served in a 32 oz can in a bucket!
Like I said before, I read mixed reviews on this restaurant. However, I did not find anything worth complaining about. I think what people are hung up on is the causal atmosphere of Hello, Sailor. As the sister (I guess) to Kindred, I don’t think they can even be compared. The food is calabash style and served in baskets. This is certainly not a fancy meal, but dang is it good.
The food and service were excellent. We got crab dip, hush puppies. and a dozen oysters for an appetizer and Dustin and I split the calabash shrimp, fries, and house pickles for dinner. Their remoulade is so yummy and fresh and the hush puppies are so good I didn’t even have time to take a picture before we ate them up.

From the decor to the cocktails to the 90s R&B playing in the bathrooms, I give Hello, Sailor a 10/10. We will definitely be frequenting this place, especially as it gets warm and they can extend service onto the patio. Charlotte friends, let me know if you check this place out! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
